Back to school is always a special time, filled with great anticipation and excitement for students. By providing essential school supplies to those in need, we offer them much more than just material support. We help them regain their self-confidence, while sparking their enthusiasm for learning and nurturing their hope for success.

Created over 26 years ago, the Opération Coût de crayon (Operation Pencil Cost) program operates throughout the Laval territory to support youth facing hardships. We collaborate with elementary and high schools, responding to the needs of children recommended by school staff (teachers, monitors, social workers, and administration). Additionally, some children are referred to us by community organizations or come from families benefiting from our emergency food assistance services.

The impact of inflation, which affects many families, has worsened financial insecurity for some, making assistance for purchasing school supplies absolutely necessary. Last year, more than 1,200 children received a backpack, a lunch box, and essential school supplies, helping to lighten the burden on families while ensuring a better back-to-school experience for these young people.

A dedicated team of 20 volunteers contributed to this project throughout the year.
